That's so strange to be missing from a game today.

Three things I would change (or at least want to hear why they didn't take this approach): * Add multiplayer. It's not an epic, Civ-style experience, but I imagine I'll play it as a way to get my strategy fix when I'm crunched for time. There are tweaks to make, but it's engaging, very well crafted, and has a solid degree of customization. And not in a good way.I'm really enjoying this. It feels unlike anything Firaxis Games has done. For $15 as a digital download, you can do far better than Starships. Even more so if you’re a long time fan of games like Civilization. It’s this shallow attempt at gameplay that makes Sid Meier’s Starships a pain to play. This results in other features such as diplomacy and resource management, two other key facets of the game, being reduced to nothing.

You’ll be guided through a host of tips on how to play the game, most of which are rendered useless if you’re able to unlock one of the game’s powerful structures that allow you to dominate your opposition in war.

Technical failings aside, the game is extremely shallow. It looks messy too even if you try playing in full screen, you cannot adjust the game’s resolution, making it blurry on most displays. Strategy games like these have a lot of text to read – a crucial component if you want to have any chance of learning how to play the game – most of it is poorly formatted and tough to read. If this wasn’t enough the interface is a mess on PC. You’ll be subject to the game slowing down more often than it should. You’ll spend an enormous amount of time colonising the far reaches of space, discover new planets, fight off enemy factions and eventually cobble together a federation of planets in an attempt to maintain peace. From the outset, Sid Meier’s Starships looks the part of a futuristic version of the turnbased strategy series that is Civilization, complete with snazzy menus, all kinds of buttons and sliders and so forth.

However, it’s nowhere as good as the aforementioned games. Sid Meier’s Starships is the latest from Firaxis Games, the company behind classics like XCOM and Civilization.
